A murder has been committed in the Swedish town of Öregrund. Nine celebrities in the new 'Crown witness' program will step into the spotlight as detectives to solve the murder, and the whole of the Netherlands will join them! Crown witness is a wonderful example of gamification, storytelling, and branded content. A crime scene reality show, with an exciting whodunnit !?

RTL and LiveWall developed the Kroongetuige program, which can be watched weekly on RTL4. In the series facts and fiction intermingle: in a staged narrative in the Swedish town of Öregrund nine BN'ers must unlock codes, solve riddles, find a serial killer and discover who the Crown witness is among the detectives: the one who tries to sabotage the investigation.


As an extension of the program, the whole of the Netherlands can follow through the Kroongetuige App. Here you could make your own police report, collect evidence and choose your suspected Crown witness. In addition, players are given additional instructions and background information by solving puzzles and executing assignments.

Games provide engagement and entertainment to a broad target group. Through mobile app gaming, LiveWall was able to create attractive branded content that led to a great social traction. In addition, the game aspect ensures long and intensive contact with the Kroongetuige target group.


Facts and figures
According to mobile attribution company Tune, the engagement that is created with a game is many times stronger than that of music and other entertainment. In addition, gamers are happy that they are challenged and aided by the producer of the game. The use of an in-app game created new platforms and social communities, which were set up by fans themselves.


In addition to the celebrities, car brand Suzuki also had a big role in crown witness. As a sponsor of the program, Suzuki supplied three Vitaras to the brand new research team. The cars could be admired in the Swedish landscape and became fully-fledged extras to the show. Also in the app the allroaders were put in the spotlight, by involving them in various mini-games.


For the commercial and images for the program and app, LiveWall and its video branch, 15seconds, traveled to Sweden for the most beautiful images. In the app we also used 360-degree videos, all shot by LiveWall's Video Production Company 15seconds.

According to the latest figures (Dec. 2017), the Kroongetuige App had more than 80,000 users and the app received more than 182.458 votes.
